Official statement about campaign financing

It’s generally during the final days of a campaign that competitors begin discrediting others. My campaign is certainly experiencing that now. Therefore, I want to issue the following official statement and thank everyone for your continued support during this challenging time.

Dear Neighbors,

As a longtime member of this community who has raised my family here for over 17 years, my campaign is built on trust, transparency, and a deep commitment to Berkeley.

It has recently come to my attention that opponents are falsely claiming I am taking money from outside special interest groups, including realtors. I want to address this directly because you deserve complete honesty and transparency from anyone asking for your vote.

To set the record straight, I chose to participate in Berkeley’s public financing program to ensure my independence and funding are completely transparent. Every single donation to my campaign comes from friends, neighbors, and residents who believe in our community and all of our contributions and expenses are publicly accessible for voters to verify.

By law, Independent Expenditures (IEs) are organized, funded, and run entirely outside of a candidate’s campaign without any coordination, direction, or approval from the candidate. I have no affiliation with the third-party ads circulating.

I had truly hoped this campaign would be a constructive debate centered on real ideas for our future, not untruths and political smears. Misrepresenting other candidates does not align with my values, nor does it serve our community.

Despite these tactics, I remain 100% committed to running a clean, positive campaign focused on substance. I am running because I have the experience needed to address the many challenges facing District 1, and I will keep working to earn your vote through hard work, integrity, and real solutions.

I have posted my positions so voters can be clear on where I stand on the issues facing our neighborhood. You can view my platform at Laura4D1.com/issues.

If you have any questions or would like to have an open conversation about our district's future, please feel free to call me directly at 510-313-3588 or email me at info@Laura4Berkeley.com.

Thank you for your support!

In community,

-Laura
